Dr DestroyerLord, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Assault

"Lefou, I'm afraid I've been thinking"
"A dangerous pastime..."
"I know"

I've read some people talking about Necrons in assault and how weak they are. The key to beating them appears to be, as Jean Luc Picard would say, "Engage." Others like the surflord tricks (but with D3 attacks, they really are just tricks), or Destroyer Lords - but the loss of the Court seems so bad.

Can it be done?
Yes... Kind of.

Winning the Game: Familiarity

This is a continuation of this article. I wanted to take a moment to address a pretty common misconception on the point of Familiarity - or Know Thyself and Know Thy Enemy. There I briefly touched upon these two concepts, but here I want to go deeper, because we need it.

The basic misconception can be boiled down into this comment by my good buddy and gaming partner Don:

Winning the Game

How do you win a game of Warhammer 40k? Is it simply a matter of throwing some models on the table, lining up like 18th century gunlines and blasting away until everyone is dead?
Hardly.

"Can you explain how your troops as they appear to have lack of mobility."

I would like to talk about this for a minute, enough so to bring it into its own post. This is, of course, not to pick on Mercer as I have had this comment from a lot of people - whether about my army or about foot armies in general.

Immolator Spam

You've probably seen this before. I've posted this on Dakka and YTTH previously, but since this is my blog and the Immolator Spam was my brainchild, I thought I should bring it over here.

I took this army list to the 2008 Las Vegas GT and did quite well with it, going 4-0-1 with 82 Battle Points
(2 complete wins, 1 major win, 1 minor win and 1 "winning" tie 13-8). I could have done better, but the cost of the army prevented me from completing it until two weeks prior and I didn't get much practice in with it.
