Baby Steps

Ah, first post in fourteen months... yeah. I don't even know if anyone is still going to read this, but I think I'm putting this up more for my mental health than anything. This is about my baby steps returning to the game.

For those that don't know, I am no longer involved in any way, shape or form with Yes the Truth Hurts. The fallout from that caused me to pretty much abandon the hobby for over a year. I haven't played in a while, and really haven't followed much either. Grey Knights and Dark Eldar have both come and gone, and I am mostly clueless as to those codexes.
All is not lost, however. I have found my happy place once again. In a random fit of expenditure, I grabbed a bunch of Necron stuff as a Christmas present to myself, and have been building in a bit of a frenzy (more to come on that later this week).

More importantly, I played my first games in a very long time this past weekend. 600 points. Yeehaw! Actually, it's an Escalation League that the local game store holds for three months at the beginning of most years. It goes at 600/900/1200, for a month at each level - with some FOC restrictions so that you're not bringing Land Raiders at 600 points. It was fun to get the games in and get a bit of a refresher on rules.

After playing, I was reminded of my previous post about Winning the Game. I focused on List Design (but really, at 600 points - there's not a lot to do), and completely forgot about most everything else. Granted, I'm just learning the army, so Familiarity is something to come - but I forgot about objectives and going for them early, so I drew the first game even though I had a clear advantage in the game.

But importantly, I had a good time. I played one game with my buddy Don, and another with RJ, someone I had not previously met. And in having a good time, I am now desiring to play more games. I think that playing to enjoy the game is more important that winning. Winning is fun, too; don't get me wrong. Right now I'm enjoying myself and getting to learn things about the game again (like: why psyfleman dreads are so stupidly good).

I'll be posting later on my build plan for my Necron army as it goes to 2000 points. I think that a couple reviews of the Ghost/Doomsday Ark and Catacomb/Annihilation Barge kits will be forthcoming as well.
This week...
Probably...

  2. I haven't been able to ... acquire that pdf yet. I remember seeing some of the changes, but until I can get my hands on a live version of it, I'm out of luck.
